Instrumentation

Instrumentation in a gas processing plant is usually comprised of a system of pneumatic and electronic devices for measurement and control of all the process variables (pressure, flow, temperature, etc.) which are pertinent to the operation of the plant. In some cases a computer is included in the instrumentation system to handle functions such as data gathering and transmission, bulk data storage, display, alarms, logging, computations, and control. Since the advent of integrated circuit electronics, specifically the microprocessor, many types of instruments are becoming more intelligent or "computerized."
The basic purposes of this section are to provide: A ready reference of definitions and symbols associated with gas plant instrumentation.
· Guidelines and design information for good process measurement, signal transmission, signal indication, and control response.
· A reference of terminology which pertains to the instrumentation of gas plants and related facilities.
